Elevate Your Confidence with a Breast Lift

Aging, pregnancy, weight fluctuations—these natural life changes can lead to breast sagging, loss of shape, and a less youthful appearance. For women who feel self-conscious about breast droopiness, a breast lift (mastopexy) offers a reliable solution to restore firmness, improve contour, and enhance confidence. At Williamsburg Plastic Surgery, Dr. Johnstuart Guarnieri specializes in high-quality mastopexy procedures designed to address sagging without altering breast size. This outpatient surgery helps patients achieve a more uplifted, balanced look that aligns with their natural body shape.

Benefits of the Breast Lift Procedure

Restored Breast Contour

A breast lift reshapes and elevates the breasts to create a more youthful, toned appearance.

Improved Self-Confidence

Many patients report feeling more comfortable in clothing and more confident in their bodies after surgery.

Long-Lasting Results

While aging continues, the improvements from a breast lift typically last for years when combined with a stable weight.

Customized Approach

Incision types and techniques are tailored to each patient’s anatomy and degree of sagging.

Enhanced Breast Position

The nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more natural placement for better proportion.

Improved Comfort

Reduced breast sag can lead to less back and shoulder pain caused by heavy, drooping breasts.

About the Breast Lift Procedure

The Procedure

Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia and typically lasts one to three hours. The surgery is designed to lift and reshape sagging breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple and areola. Dr. Guarnieri carefully evaluates the patient’s breast size, shape, and degree of drooping to determine the most appropriate incision technique. Options include:

  • Periareolar (donut) incision: A circular cut around the areola, ideal for mild sagging and minimal scarring.
  • Lollipop (keyhole) incision: A circular cut around the areola with a vertical incision down to the breast crease, suitable for moderate sagging.
  • Anchor incision: A horizontal cut along the breast crease and vertical extension up to the areola, used for significant sagging and excess skin.

After reshaping the breast tissue, excess skin is removed to create a tighter, more defined look. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more natural location. Incisions are closed with sutures, and patients are fitted with a supportive garment to aid healing.

    Recovery

In the days following surgery, patients may experience bruising, soreness, and swelling. Breasts are wrapped in an elastic bandage or surgical bra for about a week, followed by a supportive bra worn continuously for a month. Stitches are typically removed after one to two weeks. Most patients return to work within a week, though strenuous activity—including exercise—should be avoided for at least four weeks. As swelling subsides and scars fade, the final results become visible. Patients who have realistic expectations and discuss goals thoroughly with Dr. Guarnieri typically report high satisfaction levels.

    Risks

As with any surgical procedure, breast lift surgery carries certain risks. These include temporary or permanent changes in nipple or breast sensation, irregularities in breast contour or shape, asymmetry, and the possibility of partial or total loss of nipple or areola sensation. Visible scarring is possible, depending on the incision type used. While scars can fade over time and are often concealed within natural breast contours, they may remain visible in some cases. Dr. Guarnieri takes every precaution to minimize complications and ensure safe, effective outcomes.

Are You a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Ideal candidates for mastopexy are women in good overall health who have experienced breast sagging due to aging, pregnancy, weight loss, or genetics. They maintain a stable weight and have realistic expectations about the procedure’s outcomes. Common signs of sagging include breasts that have lost volume or shape, nipples pointing downward, or one breast noticeably lower than the other. Women planning to have more children should delay surgery, as pregnancy and breastfeeding can reverse the benefits. Dr. Guarnieri offers personalized consultations to determine candidacy and develop a treatment plan that fits your goals.
