If you’ve decided to have a tummy tuck, congratulations! No doubt your decision was made thoughtfully and carefully – whether you are a new mother or a grandmother.
Dr. Guarnieri specializes in Tummy Tuck surgery. It’s the only way to tighten your deep abdominal wall muscles and eliminate the stretch marks and loose skin that are the results of child-bearing and aging.
A tummy tuck is technically called an abdominoplasty. It’s designed to remove excess skin and tighten the abdominal area. If you have had abdominal surgery before, including a c-section, you understand how the recovery process evolves. A tummy tuck is major surgery; a full recovery can take months. Of course that doesn’t mean that you must stay at home, but you may be surprised at your limitations. Driving is not encouraged for 1-2 weeks. So, it’s very important to be prepared before surgery to ensure that your results and recovery are optimum.
Here are a few things to consider prior to and following your tummy tuck procedure:
•Don’t be shy about asking for help when you need it.
•Prepare frozen meals and stock your pantry and refrigerator. You need to eat well following surgery and having something already prepared will relieve the meal preparation pressure.
•If you have children, arrange for child care for a few days, if possible.
•Spruce up your home before surgery and try to arrange for someone to help you keep it clean when you return. It is important to avoid the chance of post-surgery colds or infections and also important that you do not over do it trying to keep your home clean.
•Stay hydrated. Water is essential to the healing process.
•Don’t neglect your mental health. Read, rest, listen to music and take care of yourself. Take advantage of spending time in your sweats or PJ’s.
•You can walk as soon as you are able following surgery. Dr. Guarnieri will advise you when you can resume your exercise regimen and which exercises are appropriate – this is usually around six weeks.
